Savannah River National Laboratory Tour

Join us for a dinner tour of the Savannah River National Laboratory's Center for Hydrogen Research! Visit a new Hydrogen Refueling Station with operational hydrogen fork lifts, and explore the Hydrogen Education, Training and Development Laboratory, featuring regenerative fuel cell backup power system. The tour will also feature the latest in hydrogen storage development, fuel cell development and materials testing.

  • When: Thursday, April 2, from 5 - 8 pm (see Schedule below)
  • Cost: FREE (Limited to 50 registrants with valid IDs - see Restrictions below)

Schedule
2:45 pm Depart Columbia by bus, from the Hampton Inn Lobby
4 pm Arrive at the Hydrogen Refueling Station near I20 in Aiken County
Enjoy a presentation of the new station and working hydrogen forklifts.
4:30 pm Depart for the Center of Hydrogen Research
5 pm Arrive at the Center for Hydrogen Research for tour, cocktail reception & light hors-d’oeuvres
CHR and SRNL Lobby Posters will include: Nuclear Hydrogen, Hydrogen Sensors, Hydrogen Materials, Codes/Standards/Transport, Hydrogen Storage and Hydrogen Applications.
5:15 pm Tour A: Center for Hydrogen Research (Public Areas Only)
The Center for Hydrogen Research features the Hydrogen Education, Training and Development Laboratory with a regenerative fuel cell backup power system that is fully integrated into the local power grid. Wind and Solar power systems will also be integrated into the fuel cell system. The system features a working electrolyzer, hydrogen (solid metal hydride) storage system, fuel cell and power conditioning. New general hydrogen laboratories and a hydrogen powered Chevy Silverado will also be featured.

Tour B: Savannah River National Laboratory’s Hydrogen Technology Research Laboratory
SRNL will feature Hydrogen Storage Development, Fuel Cell Development and Materials Testing laboratories. The tour is open to U.S. Citizens with proper ID only - see ID Requirements below.

Following the tours, participants will join the cocktail reception in progress.
6:30 pm Buffet Dinner
Enjoy Carolina and other local cuisine.
7 pm Dinner Speaker
Dr. Sam Bhattacharyya, Director of the Savannah River National Laboratory, will give a talk entitled "Hydrogen/Energy Programs and Missions at SRNL and the Savannah River Site."
8 pm Depart for Columbia by bus


Restrictions
The tour is limited to 50 registrants.

Below is a list of approved IDs. Registrants should bring any two IDs listed (one of which must be a photo ID). Credit cards or insurance cards cannot be used as IDs.

  • Driver’s license or ID card issued by federal, state (includes outlying possession of the United States), or local government agency provided it contains a photograph or information such as name, date of birth, gender, height, eye color and address
  • School ID card with a photograph
  • Voter’s registration card
  • U.S. Military card or draft record
  • U.S. Passport
  • U.S. Social Security Card
  • Original or certified copy of birth certificate issued by a state or county, municipal authority, or outlying possession of the U. S. bearing an official seal
  • U. S. Citizen ID Card (Form I-197)
